We had a fresh safety performed and the only items it needs to in order to pass are brake rotors, a windshield and wiper blades. It is otherwise in perfect working order and drives perfectly. HOWEVER, it can never be insured/licensed in Canada or the US and it can only be used as a track car, dismantled for parts, shipped to a distant country where people drive without insurance/license, or you can simply take your chances and drive it locally with some plate, but we are certainly not condoning that you do so. We have the ownership document in hand, so no it is not stolen. We have inspected/viewed tens of thousands of salvageable and irreparable vehicles and have purchased hundreds upon hundreds of them over the years and have either fixed/rebulit/sold them or dismantled them. We purchased this particular STi knowing that it had an irreparable status, and as such, we had it earmarked for parts, however, upon receiving the vehicle, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, short of some grass and mud in the front bumper/grille and right wheels. With exception of vaccuming the carpets, giving it a wash, purchasing $200 (yes two hundred) in parts and getting the safety check performed, it is in exactly the same condition as we received it. Needless to say, we went through the whole process for contacting various Government/Insurance Quality Control Standards Officer's in order to try and get the status changed to normal, rebuilt or salvageable. However, despite one of them finally agreeing that the adjuster that handled the case should have never deemed the car as irreparable, there is simply nothing that can be done to get the decision changed. Once it is branded as such, even if the adjuster was completely at fault, it can never be altered, plain and simple. Aside from all of the irreparable/salvageable vehicles we have seen and dealt with over the years, it would be blatantly obvious to any person that this STi should have never been branded as it was. From environmental and moral standpoints, it is simply bloody wrong and a pure shame that this vehicle can never be put back on the road legally. But, what is done is done. $8500 FIRM.
